Delhi To Dehradun Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
Defence cadets at the IMA, staff of the many central institutes, students and families heading for a life in the hills make Dehradun popular. It is a short run from Delhi and mostly on good expressway.
The road distance is roughly 250 km, and most bikes arrive in 2–3 days from pickup. That is quick enough that people often ask whether they should ride instead; the section below compares both honestly. The route normally follows Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee, about five hours by road.
| Road distance | About 250 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 2–3 days |
| Express transit | same day or next day |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹2,800 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Dehradun and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
Kanwar Yatra in July diverts traffic on the Delhi to Haridwar side for days, and winter mornings are slow because of fog around Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Dehradun. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Dense fog between late December and January is the usual slowdown on this side of the country. Summers are hot but rarely change the schedule.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Dehradun
There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
This is the usual choice. The bike is packed at your door, travels in a closed vehicle and is brought to your Dehradun address. Budget ₹2,800 to ₹3,850 for a commuter bike and 2–3 days of transit, and keep your phone on during the trip. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
Indian Railways does carry two-wheelers as parcel. You book at the parcel office, the bike is packed (the tank must be nearly empty), and it travels station to station. You then collect it from Dehradun yourself, and get it home. At 250 km the saving over a carrier is small and the handling is rougher. Our train vs truck comparison goes through it in detail.
3. Ride it yourself
About 250 km takes one long day on a bike. Fuel at roughly 45 km a litre and ₹95 a litre comes to about ₹550. Two-wheelers are exempt from toll, which helps. You also have to get yourself back home or onward after riding one way, which people forget while comparing prices.

If you have time and a healthy bike, riding is cheapest. If you are travelling with luggage, family or on a train, the carrier is the easier option. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Dehradun Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For
No one should pay for a Delhi to Dehradun bike move without seeing the full breakup, so here it is.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹2,600 – ₹3,400 | 2–3 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹2,800 – ₹3,850 | 2–3 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹3,350 – ₹4,700 | 2–3 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹5,300 – ₹7,450 | 2–3 days |
| Superbike (650cc+) | Quoted after we know the exact model | |
Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹3,300)
| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Dehradun) | ₹1,750 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹300 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹500 |
| Total | ₹3,300 |
What can push the price up or down
- Transit insurance: 2.5% of the declared value, with a minimum of ₹300. On a bike valued at ₹80,000 that is about ₹2,000, plus GST.
- Express delivery: adds about 25% to the transport portion and brings the time down to same day or next day.
- Depot instead of door: if you collect from or drop at a transport hub, you save about ₹750 plus GST.
- Waiting time: if the driver is kept waiting at pickup or delivery for hours, waiting charges can apply. Ask the policy before you book.
- Difficult access: if the truck cannot reach your gate, a smaller vehicle for the last stretch may cost extra. Tell us the address up front.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi
Before any money moves for a Delhi to Dehradun booking, go through these points. They apply to every company, including us.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Dehradun delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 250 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Do a pickup inspection. Photos or a video of the bike from all sides, with the odometer reading, and a signed condition sheet.
- Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
- Pay a company account. Get a receipt or invoice. Payments to personal numbers with no bill are hard to dispute later.
- Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
- Look at the insurance papers. Find out what is covered (theft, accident, loading damage), what you pay first, and whom to call if something goes wrong.
- Plan the Dehradun delivery. Roads up to Mussoorie and some Rajpur Road lanes are steep or tight, so a smaller vehicle may be needed for the last stretch. Mention it when you ask for the price.
Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Dehradun (And When NOC Matters)
Crew at pickup will ask for a short set of documents. Registration in Uttarakhand is a separate job that you do after the bike arrives.
- RC (registration certificate): a copy goes with the bike, and the original stays with you.
- Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
- Valid insurance: a copy of the bike's current policy.
- Authorisation letter: if someone other than the owner hands over or receives the bike, with their ID.
- Addresses and phone numbers: a working contact and a landmark at the Delhi end and at the Dehradun end.
- Finance NOC: if the bike is on a loan (hypothecation), a letter from the bank or NBFC allowing the move.
When NOC matters
You do not need an NOC to put a bike on a carrier. You need it when the bike has to be registered in Uttarakhand. A registration from another state is valid for twelve months under the Motor Vehicles Act, and then a new number must be taken. The NOC comes from the Delhi transport office, and if a loan is running, the bank has to release its hold first.
Dehradun uses the UK-07 series, and the Delhi NOC and your local address are needed.
Two extra notes: owners who qualify for the BH series can skip re-registration altogether, and the rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR keep changing, so it is worth confirming where your bike stands before you pay anyone. For a full list, see our documents required for bike transport article.
Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Dehradun: Pickup To Delivery
Here is the sequence on a typical booking. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Start with the form. Give your name, number and bike. If the bike is a Duke or R15 and the drop is near Rajpur Road, mention it so the quote fits.
- Confirm the booking. Check the days and the price, then pay the booking amount. Keep the receipt; you will need it at delivery.
- Clear the bike. Remove the helmet lock gadgets, mirrors-mounted cameras and luggage. Keep one key and the RC with you.
- Pickup day. Someone should be at the house to sign. The bike is photographed from all sides, wrapped, strapped and loaded.
- While it travels. Keep your phone on. A delay from weather or a breakdown is reported to you, not hidden until the due date.
- Be reachable. The driver rings ahead. Have the gate pass or society permission ready so the vehicle is not turned away.
- Check, sign and pay the balance. Compare the bike against your pickup photos before signing. Write any scratch on the delivery sheet at the time.
In Dehradun we usually deliver to Rajpur Road, Ballupur, Clement Town, Sahastradhara Road, Race Course and Premnagar. Roads up to Mussoorie and some Rajpur Road lanes are steep or tight, so a smaller vehicle may be needed for the last stretch. Mention it when you ask for the price.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Ignoring the weather. Dense fog between late December and January is the usual slowdown on this side of the country. Summers are hot but rarely change the schedule. Ask for a flexible window.
- Booking too late. Last-minute bookings get whatever vehicle is free, often at a higher rate. Book three to five days ahead on this route.
- Leaving accessories on. Mirrors, GPS holders, saddlebags and phone mounts go missing or break. Take them off.
- A mistake specific to Dehradun. Planning a delivery in the Kanwar Yatra weeks of July without checking dates. Roads on the Haridwar side can be closed to heavy vehicles for days.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Rajpur Road, Ballupur, Clement Town, Sahastradhara Road, Race Course and Premnagar. Roads up to Mussoorie and some Rajpur Road lanes are steep or tight, so a smaller vehicle may be needed for the last stretch. Mention it when you ask for the price.
