Delhi To Kannur Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies

Kannur is home to handloom, tile and Gulf-linked families, and a new airport has made it easier to settle. People moving there bring bikes for narrow village-style roads.

This is a long one: about 2,580 km and 7–9 days on the road. Anyone who quotes you less than a week for a haul this size should be asked, politely, how they plan to do it. The route normally follows NH44 through Bengaluru and Mysuru, then Kutta and Iritty, or the Mangaluru coast road.

Express transit4–6 days

Why the timing changes

The Mysuru to Kannur road through the ghats is slow and can close in heavy rain. The coastal route via Mangaluru is longer but sometimes safer.

Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:

  • How often carriers leave for Kannur. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
  • Season. Rain on the west side from June to September and the north-east monsoon on the east coast from October to December slow trucks. Winter fog affects only the first day out of Delhi.
  • Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
  • Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.

How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Kannur

There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.

1. Door-to-door by covered carrier

A trained crew wraps the bike, straps it to a frame inside a covered vehicle, and the same company takes it to your Kannur address. For most people this is the sensible choice: about ₹6,950 to ₹9,500 for a commuter bike, 7–9 days on the road, and nothing for you to arrange apart from being there at both ends. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.

2. Railway parcel

On this distance, parcel trains involve more than one connection, and a bike left at a transfer station gets damaged more often than one on a single carrier. If you do try it, book a direct service where possible, and ask the parcel office at Kannur whether they take two-wheelers. More on that in our train vs truck guide.

3. Ride it yourself

2,580 km means 7 days of riding and 6 hotel nights. Fuel alone is about ₹5,450 for a commuter and about ₹8,150 for a 350cc bike. It is a real trip, not a relocation tool, and a long ride ages tyres, chain and brakes. Few people do it for a house move.

At this distance, a covered carrier is the only practical way to move the bike, unless you want an adventure. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.

Delhi To Kannur Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For

ItemApprox. amount
Line-haul freight (Delhi to Kannur)₹5,350
Loading, strapping and standard wrap₹850
Door pickup and door delivery₹750
GST at 18%₹1,250
Total₹8,200

What can push the price up or down

  • Transit insurance: optional cover at 2.5% of what you declare, never below ₹300. Declare ₹60,000 and it comes to about ₹1,500 plus GST.
  • Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 4–6 days.
  • Depot instead of door: if you can bring the bike to a hub or collect it from one, the ₹750 door charge and its GST drop off.
  • Waiting time: a driver held up for hours at either end may bill for the wait. Ask what the rule is before you book.
  • Premium wrap: costs about ₹900 more for thicker padding and a frame around the bike. Sensible for a new or expensive machine.

The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi

Most complaints about bike shipping start with a rushed advance payment. Before you send money, run through this list.

  • Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Kannur delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
  • Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 2,580 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
  • Pay a company account. Get a receipt or invoice. Payments to personal numbers with no bill are hard to dispute later.
  • Check the company is real. Ask for the GST number, the registered office address and a landline or office you can visit or video call. Search the name with reviews.
  • Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
  • Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
  • Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
  • Plan the Kannur delivery. Coastal roads near Payyambalam are narrow and busy on weekends, so choose a weekday for delivery.

Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Kannur (And When NOC Matters)

Crew at pickup will ask for a short set of documents. Registration in Kerala is a separate job that you do after the bike arrives.

  • RC (registration certificate): a copy goes with the bike, and the original stays with you.
  • Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
  • Finance NOC: if the bike is on a loan (hypothecation), a letter from the bank or NBFC allowing the move.
  • Authorisation letter: if someone other than the owner hands over or receives the bike, with their ID.
  • Valid insurance: a copy of the bike's current policy.
  • Contact details: a phone number and landmark for both Delhi and Kannur.

When NOC matters

You do not need an NOC to put a bike on a carrier. You need it when the bike has to be registered in Kerala. A registration from another state is valid for twelve months under the Motor Vehicles Act, and then a new number must be taken. The NOC comes from the Delhi transport office, and if a loan is running, the bank has to release its hold first.

Kannur has an RTO, and a bike from Delhi needs the NOC and a local address proof when it is re-registered.

Two extra notes: owners who qualify for the BH series can skip re-registration altogether, and the rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR keep changing, so it is worth confirming where your bike stands before you pay anyone. For a full list, see our documents required for bike transport article.

Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Kannur: Pickup To Delivery

This is how a normal booking runs. Our how it works page has more detail.

  1. Start with the form. Give your name, number and bike. If the bike is a Pulsar or Jupiter and the drop is near Thavakkara, mention it so the quote fits.
  2. Confirm the booking. Check the days and the price, then pay the booking amount. Keep the receipt; you will need it at delivery.
  3. Prepare the bike. Drain the tank to about a litre, remove accessories and clean it so scratches show up in the photos.
  4. Handover in Mayur Vihar or nearby. The crew walks around the bike with you, notes every mark, ties it down and hands you the condition sheet.
  5. Transit to Kannur. Expect about 7–9 days on the road. You get the driver or coordinator number for updates.
  6. Be reachable. The driver rings ahead. Have the gate pass or society permission ready so the vehicle is not turned away.
  7. Check, sign and pay the balance. Compare the bike against your pickup photos before signing. Write any scratch on the delivery sheet at the time.

In Kannur we usually deliver to Thavakkara, Fort Road, Thana, Pallikunnu, Payyambalam and Thalassery. Coastal roads near Payyambalam are narrow and busy on weekends, so choose a weekday for delivery.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)

  • Trusting a verbal promise. If the days or the price are not on paper, they are not a promise.
  • Not checking who signs. Whoever signs at delivery accepts the bike as is, so have the right person there.
  • Choosing only on price. A quote far below the others usually means a shared, transfer-heavy journey or missing insurance.
  • A mistake specific to Kannur. Treating Kannur and Thalassery as the same place. They are 20 km apart, so be clear on the drop address.
  • Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Thavakkara, Fort Road, Thana, Pallikunnu, Payyambalam and Thalassery. Coastal roads near Payyambalam are narrow and busy on weekends, so choose a weekday for delivery.
