Delhi To Kolkata Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
Students for Jadavpur and Calcutta University, families coming back after a Delhi posting, and a steady flow of corporate transfers keep Kolkata one of the busiest eastbound routes for us.
The road distance is about 1,530 km and the usual transit is 5–7 days from the day the carrier leaves Delhi. Add a day at either end for pickup and for the delivery appointment, and you have the real timeline. The route normally follows NH19 (the old Grand Trunk Road) via Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Dhanbad.
| Road distance | About 1,530 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 5–7 days |
| Express transit | 4–6 days |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹5,650 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Kolkata and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
NH19 passes through several towns where traffic crawls, especially around Kanpur, Varanasi and the Jharkhand stretch. Trucks are also restricted from entering Kolkata for much of the day, so the final delivery is often at night.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Kolkata. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Winter fog on the Uttar Pradesh stretch and monsoon flooding between July and September are the two seasons that stretch delivery dates.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Kolkata
There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
The crew comes to you, wraps the bike, ties it down inside a covered body, and delivers to your Kolkata address. A commuter bike runs about ₹5,650 to ₹7,750, with 5–7 days on the road. You only need to be present at pickup and at delivery. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
Possible, but slow. The bike goes by parcel train from a Delhi station, and you collect it at Kolkata. Packing is on you, the tank must be nearly empty, and transit depends on which trains run that week, so it can take longer than a carrier. If the parcel office at Kolkata cannot take two-wheelers, you are stuck, so ask first. See our train vs truck comparison.
3. Ride it yourself
1,530 km is 4 days of riding at a comfortable pace, and 3 nights on the road. Fuel is around ₹3,250 for a commuter bike (about ₹4,850 for a 350cc Royal Enfield). Toll is free for bikes, but hotels, food and a return ticket are not. It works if you want the trip. It does not work if you are in a hurry or the bike is new and still running in.

For most people moving house or job, the covered carrier is the one that makes sense. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Kolkata Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For
Prices below are what most customers pay on this route. They are ranges because the same cc can mean different weight and handling, and because carriers price by the week's load.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹5,200 – ₹6,900 | 5–7 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹5,650 – ₹7,750 | 5–7 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹6,800 – ₹9,550 | 5–7 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹10,800 – ₹15,100 | 5–7 days |
| Superbike (650cc+) | Quoted after we know the exact model | |
Where the money goes (commuter bike, mid-range quote of ₹6,700)
| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Kolkata) | ₹4,250 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹700 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹1,000 |
| Total | ₹6,700 |
What can push the price up or down
- Transit insurance: 2.5% of the declared value, with a minimum of ₹300. On a bike valued at ₹1,00,000 that is about ₹2,500, plus GST.
- Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 4–6 days.
- Difficult access: a narrow lane or a low basement can mean a smaller vehicle for the last stretch, and that can cost extra. Say so when you ask for the quote.
- Waiting time: a driver held up for hours at either end may bill for the wait. Ask what the rule is before you book.
- Depot instead of door: if you collect from or drop at a transport hub, you save about ₹750 plus GST.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi
A few minutes of checking can save you a lot. Here is what to confirm before paying anyone an advance.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Kolkata delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 1,530 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
- Pay a company account. Get a receipt or invoice. Payments to personal numbers with no bill are hard to dispute later.
- Do a pickup inspection. Photos or a video of the bike from all sides, with the odometer reading, and a signed condition sheet.
- Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
- Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
- Plan the Kolkata delivery. Central Kolkata lanes are tight, so for areas near Park Street or Bowbazar we usually hand over at a nearby main road.
Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Kolkata (And When NOC Matters)
To hand over the bike you need very little. The real paperwork starts after delivery, if you plan to register the bike in West Bengal.
- RC book or smart card: hand over a photocopy and keep the original yourself.
- Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
- Addresses and phone numbers: a working contact and a landmark at the Delhi end and at the Kolkata end.
- Authorisation letter: if someone other than the owner hands over or receives the bike, with their ID.
- Loan papers: if the RC shows hypothecation, carry the lender's consent letter for the move.
- Valid insurance: a copy of the bike's current policy.
When NOC matters
Moving a bike to another state does not need an NOC for the transport itself. It matters when you want to re-register the bike in West Bengal. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a registration from another state stays valid for twelve months, and after that you must apply for a new registration number. The Delhi transport office issues the NOC for that, and if the bike is financed, the lender has to clear it first.
West Bengal registration is handled by the Regional Transport Office covering your address (Beltala, Alipore, Salt Lake and others), and the series is WB.
Two extra notes: owners who qualify for the BH series can skip re-registration altogether, and the rules on older vehicles in Delhi–NCR keep changing, so it is worth confirming where your bike stands before you pay anyone. For a full list, see our documents required for bike transport article.
Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Kolkata: Pickup To Delivery
Most bookings follow these seven steps. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Start with the form. Give your name, number and bike. If the bike is a Duke or R15 and the drop is near Salt Lake, mention it so the quote fits.
- Read the quote. For 1,530 km it should show the total with GST, about 5–7 days on the road, and what is included. A commuter bike on this route starts near ₹5,650.
- Clear the bike. Remove the helmet lock gadgets, mirrors-mounted cameras and luggage. Keep one key and the RC with you.
- Handover in Okhla or nearby. The crew walks around the bike with you, notes every mark, ties it down and hands you the condition sheet.
- While it travels. Keep your phone on. A delay from weather or a breakdown is reported to you, not hidden until the due date.
- Be reachable. The driver rings ahead. Have the gate pass or society permission ready so the vehicle is not turned away.
- Check, sign and pay the balance. Compare the bike against your pickup photos before signing. Write any scratch on the delivery sheet at the time.
In Kolkata we usually deliver to Salt Lake, New Town, Garia, Dum Dum, Behala and Ballygunge. Central Kolkata lanes are tight, so for areas near Park Street or Bowbazar we usually hand over at a nearby main road.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Leaving accessories on. Mirrors, GPS holders, saddlebags and phone mounts go missing or break. Take them off.
- Leaving a full tank. Carriers can refuse a bike with lots of fuel. Keep about a litre.
- Choosing only on price. A quote far below the others usually means a shared, transfer-heavy journey or missing insurance.
- A mistake specific to Kolkata. Choosing a carrier that unloads at a Howrah depot and tells you to collect the bike yourself. Ask in writing whether your price includes delivery to your address in Kolkata.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Salt Lake, New Town, Garia, Dum Dum, Behala and Ballygunge. Central Kolkata lanes are tight, so for areas near Park Street or Bowbazar we usually hand over at a nearby main road.
