Delhi To Howrah Bike Transport Basics: Distance, Time, And Why It Varies
Howrah is the twin city of Kolkata, with a big railway station and a heavy-industry history. Many people who work in Kolkata live on this side and book a Howrah drop.
The road distance is about 1,500 km and the usual transit is 5–7 days from the day the carrier leaves Delhi. Add a day at either end for pickup and for the delivery appointment, and you have the real timeline. The route normally follows NH19 through Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Dhanbad, finishing across the Hooghly river from Kolkata.
| Road distance | About 1,500 km |
|---|---|
| Standard transit | 5–7 days |
| Express transit | 4–6 days |
| Starting price (commuter bike) | ₹5,650 onwards |
| Pickup | Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad) |
| Delivery | Door delivery in Howrah and nearby areas |

Why the timing changes
Heavy trucks are commonly time-restricted around Howrah Bridge and the Kolkata approaches, so the last leg is often at night or early morning.
Besides that, four things move the date more than anything else:
- How often carriers leave for Howrah. A bike booked on a day when a vehicle is already loading leaves sooner than one that waits for a full load.
- Season. Winter fog on the Uttar Pradesh stretch and monsoon flooding between July and September are the two seasons that stretch delivery dates.
- Where you are in the NCR. Pickup from Delhi proper is quickest. If you are in Gurgaon, Noida or Faridabad, mention your sector when you ask for the quote.
- Who receives it. A delivery that needs an RWA letter or gate pass takes longer than one where the driver can park outside and hand over.
How to Ship my Bike! - 3 Ways To Transport Your Bike From Delhi To Howrah
There are really only three options. Here is how each one works out on this route.
1. Door-to-door by covered carrier
A trained crew wraps the bike, straps it to a frame inside a covered vehicle, and the same company takes it to your Howrah address. For most people this is the sensible choice: about ₹5,650 to ₹7,700 for a commuter bike, 5–7 days on the road, and nothing for you to arrange apart from being there at both ends. Read more on our door-to-door bike transport page.
2. Railway parcel
Possible, but slow. The bike goes by parcel train from a Delhi station, and you collect it at Howrah. Packing is on you, the tank must be nearly empty, and transit depends on which trains run that week, so it can take longer than a carrier. If the parcel office at Howrah cannot take two-wheelers, you are stuck, so ask first. See our train vs truck comparison.
3. Ride it yourself
1,500 km is 4 days of riding at a comfortable pace, and 3 nights on the road. Fuel is around ₹3,150 for a commuter bike (about ₹4,750 for a 350cc Royal Enfield). Toll is free for bikes, but hotels, food and a return ticket are not. It works if you want the trip. It does not work if you are in a hurry or the bike is new and still running in.

For most people moving house or job, the covered carrier is the one that makes sense. We handle everything from motorcycles and scooters to Royal Enfield and sports bikes.
Delhi To Howrah Bike Transport Costs: What You’re Really Paying For
Here are the numbers for a bike going from Delhi to Howrah. They include standard packing, loading, GST and door pickup and delivery. Insurance is optional and comes on top.
| Bike type | Price range (incl. GST) | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter / moped (up to 125cc) | ₹5,200 – ₹6,850 | 5–7 days |
| Commuter bike (100–160cc) | ₹5,650 – ₹7,700 | 5–7 days |
| Royal Enfield / cruiser (350–650cc) | ₹6,750 – ₹9,450 | 5–7 days |
| Sports bike (300cc+) | ₹10,700 – ₹15,000 | 5–7 days |

| Item | Approx. amount |
|---|---|
| Line-haul freight (Delhi to Howrah) | ₹4,250 |
| Loading, strapping and standard wrap | ₹700 |
| Door pickup and door delivery | ₹750 |
| GST at 18% | ₹1,000 |
| Total | ₹6,700 |
Extras and adjustments
- Transit insurance: optional cover at 2.5% of what you declare, never below ₹300. Declare ₹60,000 and it comes to about ₹1,500 plus GST.
- Express delivery: costs roughly a quarter more on the transport charge and cuts the trip to 4–6 days.
- Difficult access: a narrow lane or a low basement can mean a smaller vehicle for the last stretch, and that can cost extra. Say so when you ask for the quote.
- Premium wrap: adds about ₹900 for extra padding and a crate-style frame, worth it for a new or high-value bike.
- Depot instead of door: if you collect from or drop at a transport hub, you save about ₹750 plus GST.
The price rises with distance, but not in a straight line. The first few hundred kilometres cost more per km than the rest, because loading, packing and paperwork are fixed. The Safety Checklist Before You Pay Any Advance for Bike Shipping from Delhi
Most complaints about bike shipping start with a rushed advance payment. Before you send money, run through this list.
- Get the quote in writing. It should name the pickup address, the Howrah delivery address, packing, insurance, GST and the days promised.
- Ask if the bike stays on one vehicle. Over 1,500 km, a transfer at a hub is where most damage and delay happen.
- Ask for a contact number for the trip. Someone should pick up the phone while your bike is on the road.
- Look at the insurance papers. Find out what is covered (theft, accident, loading damage), what you pay first, and whom to call if something goes wrong.
- Do not pay in full upfront. A small booking amount is fine. If someone asks for everything before pickup, that is a warning sign.
- Prepare the bike. Keep fuel to about a litre, tape or disconnect the battery lead, remove loose accessories and keep one key with you. Our how to prepare your bike guide covers the rest.
- Do a pickup inspection. Photos or a video of the bike from all sides, with the odometer reading, and a signed condition sheet.
- Plan the Howrah delivery. Densely built-up areas like Salkia have lanes that do not take a truck at all, so the driver stops at the main road.
Documents You Usually Need for Bike Transport from Delhi to Howrah (And When NOC Matters)
To hand over the bike you need very little. The real paperwork starts after delivery, if you plan to register the bike in West Bengal.
- RC book or smart card: hand over a photocopy and keep the original yourself.
- Letter of authority: needed when a relative or friend hands over or receives the bike, with their ID attached.
- Valid insurance: a copy of the bike's current policy.
- Finance NOC: if the bike is on a loan (hypothecation), a letter from the bank or NBFC allowing the move.
- Owner's ID: any one of Aadhaar, driving licence or passport, with the same name as the RC.
- Contact details: a phone number and landmark for both Delhi and Howrah.
When NOC matters
You do not need an NOC to put a bike on a carrier. You need it when the bike has to be registered in West Bengal. A registration from another state is valid for twelve months under the Motor Vehicles Act, and then a new number must be taken. The NOC comes from the Delhi transport office, and if a loan is running, the bank has to release its hold first.
Howrah has its own RTO under the WB series, separate from Kolkata, and you file there.
Keep two things in mind. A BH (Bharat) series plate does not need re-registration after a state change, if you are eligible for one. And rules for older vehicles in Delhi–NCR have shifted over the years, so confirm the current position for your bike's age before you book. Step-By-Step Booking Process of Bike Transport from Delhi to Howrah: Pickup To Delivery
This is how a normal booking runs. Our how it works page has more detail.
- Send your details. The form above takes a minute. We need the bike model, whether it starts, and the two addresses: one in Dwarka or elsewhere in Delhi NCR, one in Howrah.
- Confirm the booking. Check the days and the price, then pay the booking amount. Keep the receipt; you will need it at delivery.
- Get the bike ready. Leave about a litre of petrol, take off bags and phone mounts, and wash it so existing marks are clear. Winter fog on the Uttar Pradesh stretch and monsoon flooding between July and September are the two seasons that stretch delivery dates.
- Pickup day. Someone should be at the house to sign. The bike is photographed from all sides, wrapped, strapped and loaded.
- While it travels. Keep your phone on. A delay from weather or a breakdown is reported to you, not hidden until the due date.
- Fix the delivery time. If you are in Shibpur or Liluah, tell the driver the society name and gate number, and who will be there.
- Inspect and close. Match the bike to the pickup photos, start it, and note any damage on the paper before you sign and pay.
In Howrah we usually deliver to Shibpur, Liluah, Santragachi, Salkia, Bally and Ghusuri. Densely built-up areas like Salkia have lanes that do not take a truck at all, so the driver stops at the main road.

Mistakes People Make On This Bike Shipping Route (And How You Avoid Them)
- Leaving accessories on. Mirrors, GPS holders, saddlebags and phone mounts go missing or break. Take them off.
- Skipping the photos. Without pickup photos, a damage claim becomes your word against theirs.
- Not checking who signs. Whoever signs at delivery accepts the bike as is, so have the right person there.
- A mistake specific to Howrah. Calling it a Kolkata drop. A truck from Delhi may go to the Kolkata side first, and getting the bike across the river is an extra step unless your booking says Howrah.
- Not planning the drop. Typical delivery areas include Shibpur, Liluah, Santragachi, Salkia, Bally and Ghusuri. Densely built-up areas like Salkia have lanes that do not take a truck at all, so the driver stops at the main road.
